Great Beginnings Academy was founded with a passion for early childhood education and a deep understanding of what children and families need to thrive. For 18 years, it operated successfully as Great Beginnings Learning Center before Marion Castro, the director at the time, purchased the school and transformed it into Great Beginnings Academy.
Marion, a mother of four and proud grandmother to three, is a lifelong advocate for children’s development. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Purdue Global University at the age of 50, she brought her vision to life—creating a nurturing, inclusive, and academically enriching environment for children.
With over 15 years of experience in the field and eight as a director, Marion saw the importance of a school that not only prepares children academically but also fosters a sense of community. Together with her husband, Fidel, who brings extensive financial expertise, the Castros have built a thriving, family-focused academy that serves Sussex County and the surrounding areas.
Great Beginnings Academy continues to evolve by upholding the highest standards of early childhood education and continuously improving its programs. From mentoring teachers to engaging with the community through charitable initiatives, Marion and Fidel have created a school where children and families feel supported, celebrated, and inspired.
I didn’t know I wanted a career in early childhood education until I became a stay-at-home mom for 16 years. During that time, I honed skills like empathy, patience, creativity, and reliability—all of which I now bring to Great Beginnings Academy.
Earning my degree and graduating Summa Cum Laude was a milestone that shaped my journey. Today, I’m proud to lead a school where children feel safe, teachers thrive, and families grow together. I strive to provide mentorship, structure, and compassion to everyone in our community, making Great Beginnings Academy a true extension of home.
As the co-owner of Great Beginnings Academy, I oversee all financial operations, drawing on decades of experience in financial planning, budgeting, and asset management to ensure the academy’s stability and growth. With a Bachelor of Science and an MBA in Finance from Long Island University, I’ve dedicated my career to helping families and organizations thrive.
At Great Beginnings, my goal is to support both families and staff—educationally and financially. I’m passionate about empowering parents with tools and knowledge about saving, estate planning, and reducing debt, because I truly believe that a strong foundation at home contributes to every child’s success
